Dance Poetry

Dance Poetry is the cooperative, yet independent, exchange of poetic verse between one or more persons that culminates in the combining of their verses into a single poem. This new poetic form is designed to bring together the thoughts and feelings of multiple people in poems on subjects of common theme or interest.

 

A Community is a group of people that form together because of some common-unity they have. Unity is cooperation, synchronization, patterned action and it takes on a form. A community can be made up of any mixture of persons that have a common bond between them; friends, family, co-workers, members of the same religion, ethnic group, fraternal order, etc.

 

Dance is a form of flowing cooperation and synchronization by one or more persons in tandem with one another; in some form of artistic cooperation, in a flowing give and take relationship of movements. Sometimes it is scripted and at other times it is free-flowing. Whether scripted or free-flow, beautiful dance is coordinated, synchronous, patterned, formed, marked by movement—it is interactive.

 

Poetry is usually associated with rhythmic, symbolic, metaphoric verses that contain some kind of pattern(s) concluding with some form of rhyme. However, like dance, there are forms of poetry that are free-flowing, non-rhythmic and do not follow form or pattern.

 

It is Community, because there are multiple people exchanging their ideas with each other on a subject. It is Dance, because there is a flowing, give and take, back and forth exchange of the verses circling around the chosen subject. It is Poetry, because the exchange is done in poetic verse, each participant contributing one or more stanzas, all being merged into a single poem that embodies the views and expressions of those involved.
